Archbishop Diarmuid Martin expressed his congratulations to Archbishop Sean Brady on the announcement that Pope Benedict XVI will create him Cardinal at a Consistory on 24th November.

Archbishop Martin said that Archbishop Brady was an exceptionally genuine human person, deeply marked by the Christian message.

This personal authenticity, and his capacity as a caring listener, has enabled him to be a bridge-builder in many areas, especially in his relations with all the parties in the Northern Ireland peace process.

As President of the Irish Episcopal Conference Archbishop Brady has worked towards the building of effective consensus among bishops and has built up the effectiveness of the structures of the Conference.
