It is difficult to find words to express our shock at the tragedy that has befallen the Cash and Cawley families in recent days. The words of the prophet Jeremiah, who himself knew much loss, might help us now.

He prayed:

Why is my pain unceasing,
my wound incurable,
refusing to be healed? (Jer 15:18)

I want to assure all who are touched by this tragedy of my sympathy and prayer, and that of the people of the Diocese. May you be consoled in these pain-filled days and may those around you be a source of shelter and strength in the weeks and months to come. May the Lord grant Lisa, Christy and Chelsea eternal rest.
