A Tale of Two Popes for Culture Night in Clonliffe
Still reflecting (and recovering) from the visit of Pope Francis, the Archdiocese of Dublin will celebrate Culture Night in Clonliffe this Friday evening with reflection, music, drama and “A Tale of two Popes”.
The Diocesan Archivist, Noelle Dowling, has collated many of the most memorable pieces from the extensive Diocesan archive reflecting the enormity of the preparations and the impact of the visit of Pope John Paul to Dublin in 1979. Alongside these will be the most recent memories, resources and images from the historic visit of Pope Francis to the World Meeting of Families at the end of last month. This unique exhibition will be on view from 6pm.
As well as the old and new from the Archives, there is a full evening programme of music and reflection. At 6.45pm our Celtic Spirituality will be explored, looking at how our ancient traditions sustained us and reflecting on new ways of spreading the Good News of the Gospel.
The spirit-filled evening will end on a dramatic and musical note with a live adapted version of Songs of Praise. This includes some dramatic inserts from the 17th and 19th centuries with Dr. Brian Casey and Professor John McCafferty, Ó Cleirigh Institute in UCD & President of the Irish Manuscript Commission.
Coming together at 8pm will be 40 schoolchildren from Loreto in Rathfarnham who took part in the Laudate Musical programme in the Diocese, as well as 20 teenagers from St. Mary’s Holy Faith Killester and the Dominican College on Griffith Avenue who took part in Emmanuel concert series in the Helix. They will join in concert with the Diocesan Music Group and will finish Culture Night with a special rendition of “God is in the House”.
All events are free and begin in Clonliffe College at 6pm on Friday 21st. All welcome.
