Farmers attending the Ploughing Championships on Tuesday will, for the first time, be invited to leave their prayers at a stand run by the representatives of Dublin’s Catholic and Church of Ireland Dioceses.
Representatives of the Catholic and Church of Ireland Archdiocese of Dublin and the Irish Missionary Union, have taken a stand at the championships and will join in presenting the message of the Gospel to the 150,000 visitors to the event.
Following the official opening of the Ploughing championships tomorrow (Tuesday) by President Mc Aleese, Bishop Eamon Walsh, Auxiliary Bishop of Dublin and the Venerable Ricky Rountree, Archdeacon of Glendalough and will bless the ground.
The Ecumenical initiative is part of the celebrations for the Year of Evangelisation in the Archdiocese of Dublin to bring the message of the Gospel to as many people as possible during the Year.
Those attending the Ploughing Championships will be offered the opportunity to leave their prayer request on a special prayer wall as well as being offered space for quiet time and reflection in a prayer space. The stand will include information boards on the churches and the Missionary Union and each visitor will receive a complimentary prayer card with extracts of St. Luke’s Gospel. There will be readings & prayer regularly during the day.
The Ecumencial stand will follow a different theme on each day of the Championships starting with “the Plough” on Tuesday, “Sowing the Seed” on Wednesday and “The Water of Life” on Thursday. ENDS
